House Renovation – Single Story Semi

Space:

Single story semi with East West aspect. Main building retaining its original features and details with lean to additions to the rear containing Bathroom, kitchen, Dining & laundry. This was an add on and remodel from 60’s/70’s.

Client:

Domenic, Katie and 3 gorgeous children
A family of five needing more room.

Brief:

Partly demolish and extend.
“Modern and comfortable”

Design:

After initial space planning we came to the conclusion that an increase of space was not required but a proper redesign of space would suffice. Would you believe we did not increase the footprint.

We demolished the rear lean to roof and back wall gutting all within leaving the common wall and part of the south wall. We repatched the roof to a single skillion falling to the south and design a large roof hood with glazing to the north for passive solar gain. This element alone helped the spacious feel by an increase in volume and let Northern sunlight into the room in winter.

The result of this rework of space and design was a new third bedroom with ensuite, bathroom, laundry, kitchen, dining and living room which opens with slide away glazing to a deck and rear garden.
